The news release from Yellowstone National Park is as follows.
Wy’s Mammoth Hot Springs. Due to low river flows and warm water temperatures, some rivers and streams in Yellowstone National Park will be closed to fishing every day from 2 p.m. to sunrise starting on Thursday, June 19.
Recent days have seen water temperatures in a few rivers and streams rise beyond 68 degrees Fahrenheit, with low flows. The closure, which will last until conditions improve, will safeguard the park’s native and wild trout fisheries because these conditions are fatal to trout.
This weekend is predicted to be cooler. Employees will keep an eye on the water’s temperature. If water temperatures sufficiently cool, the barrier might be lifted.
Which streams and rivers will be blocked every day between 2:00 PM and the next day’s sunrise?
- The Madison River and all associated tributaries.
- The Firehole River and all associated tributaries.
- The Gibbon River and all associated tributaries downstream of Norris Campground.
What’s going to be accessible?
- Yellowstone Lake and other lakes will remain open to fishing from sunrise to sunset as specified in the 2025 Fishing Regulations booklet.
- All other rivers and streams not listed as closed.
Anglers: Please land fish as soon as possible and fish during the coolest parts of the day. Avoid playing hooked trout until you’re exhausted. As much as possible, handle fish gently in the water and give them time to recover before releasing them. The park’s fisheries will be safeguarded by your cooperation.
