Vacation selfies of a woman ‘dripping in diamonds’ lead to her arrest for jewelry theft, police say

(CNN) According to a statement from Humberside Police, a former manager of a jewelry business in the UK was given a 28-month prison sentence for sharing pictures of herself wearing pilfered goods with her colleagues.

According to the authorities, Lucy Roberts, 39, regularly brought jewelry home with her throughout the year she worked at a posh store, claiming to be working from home and organizing supplies for the workshop. The store is not named in the police statement.

According to the statement, Roberts’ coworkers didn’t know where the jewelry went until she resigned and took a vacation. She started texting her former coworkers selfies while on a cruise, wearing clothes that she had stolen from the store.

Detective Sgt. Krista Wilkinson stated in the police news release that she was carefree, dripping in diamonds, and believed she had lied to everyone.

After inspecting her home, police discovered thousands of pounds’ worth of jewels scattered in cupboards and boxes under the bed, according to the statement.

Wilkinson claims that Roberts took almost $170,000 from her employer in cash, gold, silver, diamonds, and custom jewelry.

It was impossible for CNN to find out if Roberts had legal counsel.

According to the police, Roberts first denied stealing any goods from her business, claiming that she had borrowed some of the jewelry from a coworker and that the other things had been hidden in her luggage. However, she subsequently pleaded guilty to employee theft and was sentenced to 28 months in jail.

Police say Roberts was taken into custody at London’s Heathrow Airport. According to the statement, they apprehended her after discovering more stolen goods in her suitcase and a significant amount of jewelry that had been stolen.

As Roberts was being led through Heathrow Airport, police claimed, body camera footage from the arrest shows her taking off more jewelry in an effort to get rid of it.

According to the news release, the store where Roberts used to work expressed their satisfaction at having resolution to the issue after many years.
