Utah’s West Jordan (KSL.com) On Friday, a father from West Jordan, Utah, was charged with the abuse of his infant daughter, resulting in 21 fractures during the girl’s first month of life.
23-year-old Isaiah Regal Hernandez faces 21 counts of severe child abuse, a second-degree felony, in the 3rd District Court.
According to charge documents, West Jordan police started their investigation after a 1-month-old child was brought to Primary Children’s Hospital and it was discovered that she had many acute and healing rib fractures in addition to fractures to her leg and foot.
According to the allegations, doctors discovered rib fractures in an acute (new) phase on December 31 when they performed another X-ray of the youngster while she was in the hospital.
Hernandez demonstrated with a doll that he grips both legs and moves them outward in a circular motion, and he informed investigators that they had gone on bicycle rides with the girl. According to the allegations, Hernandez stated that he didn’t believe he made an intentional attempt at anything.
The girl’s mother acknowledged that Hernandez would attempt to perform some exercises with her when she was having trouble voiding, but she also acknowledged that the girl became upset, squeamish, and appeared uneasy when Hernandez performed the exercises, according to the prosecution documents.
According to the police, the mother also said Hernandez may have been a bit too harsh with the girl and that the workouts may have contributed to her fractures.
However, when police searched the mother’s phone, they discovered that she had a history of internet searches for things like “baby has a bit of blood in her mouth, baby bloody noses, paleness in babies, baby (loses) color in her face, and baby loses pink in her face,” as well as “crackling popping noise in my (baby’s) back, crackling popping noise in my (baby’s) body, and crackling noise when my baby breathes,” according to the charges.
According to court filings, Kaitelyn Vanessa Cruz, 24, conducted more internet searches in January to find out why (does) my kid have shattered ribs and how to remove a bulge on the infant’s head.
In January, Cruz allegedly texted Hernandez, saying, “If we don’t cooperate and tell them how it might have happened, I don’t want them to take her away.” It’s not as though you intended to harm her in any way.
According to the accusations, the mother then gives Hernandez instructions to demonstrate to the physicians how he was attempting to assist their daughter with constipation problems.
However, according to charge documents, doctors stated that the girl’s injuries should be regarded as extremely serious for trauma caused and that returning the kid to the same caring setting increases the child’s danger of suffering more harm or dying.
Hernandez, according to the prosecution, used a motion that was meant to assist the victim, but his negligence caused harm instead. According to the charges, he proceeded to move the victim’s body in a manner that broke her bones in spite of her cries. Because of Hernandez’s deliberate actions, the girl suffered 21 broken or shattered bones during her early years.
Although Cruz is named as a co-defendant in court filings, as of Friday, no formal charges have been brought against her.
