LEWISTON, ID – Lewis-Clark State College’s Center for Arts & History (CAH), located at 415 Main Street in Lewiston, has opened a new exhibit from Wylie Contemporary, Inc. and co-curated by Jorge Benitez and Reni Gower. The exhibit is free and open to the public during CAH business hours.
“The Garden: Thistle & Thorn” brings together eight artists with distinct visions and approaches as well as a shared commitment to the making of art as a physical act of discovery. Elemental references to light, air, water, earth, and fire are embedded in the interdisciplinary works featured in The Garden. The 67-piece exhibit offers a variety of mediums, such as weaving, painting, encaustics, and paper making. The exhibit will be on display in the CAH first floor galleries through Aug. 31.
Co-curator, Benitez is a native of Cuba, who spent his formative years in Belgium and is fluent in French and Spanish. His work is represented in corporate collections and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Before his retirement, Benitez taught drawing, art theory, and the history of visual communications in the Virginia Commonwealth University communication arts department.
Gower, a co-curator of the exhibit, was awarded SECAC’s Award for Outstanding Artistic Achievement. Her artwork is represented in many prestigious collections and has been exhibited at international and national venues for over 40 years. In addition to her painting practice, she curates award-winning traveling exhibitions.
