The Cassia County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook that the alleged murder occurred Tuesday afternoon. Not much information has been made public.

Chief Jeff McEwen of the Rupert Police Department states in a linked post that shortly after 3 p.m., they discovered a female laying dead on the floor of a house located at 1024 F Steet.

According to a police department update released Wednesday morning, the suspect is in custody and the crime was a homicide. Both departments seem to be cooperating on the case, though it’s unclear if this is the same suspect that the Cassia County Sheriff’s Office mentioned.

A lady who claimed to be the deceased’s niece emailed EastIdahoNews.com earlier Wednesday morning to report that her aunt and uncle had been shot at their house.

She sent us to the Rupert Police Department’s and the sheriff’s office’s Facebook pages.

The woman and the two law enforcement organizations have been contacted by EastIdahoNews.com. Although no one was available for comment, both agencies have confirmed that more details will be released on Wednesday.

The investigation is still open and ongoing. The sheriff’s office stated on Tuesday that there isn’t an immediate threat to the community, but additional details will be available tomorrow (Wednesday).

Rupert Police announced in a Facebook post Wednesday morning that more details would be made public later today (Wednesday).
