Road construction near US Highway 20 exits in Rexburg nears completion

REXBURG On Wednesday morning, the last phase of the year-long construction project began with the installation of new directional signs over University Boulevard and West Main Street.

In order to accommodate workers, traffic will be slowed to one lane in each direction for the installation of the new signage, which is anticipated to continue until the end of this week, Idaho Transportation Department District 6 spokesperson Sky Buffat told EastIdahoNews.com.

Although the project is not yet finished, she stated that this phase will eliminate the disruptions to commuters on that section of road.

Naturally, there are still some last details to do, such as the sidewalk rails, signage, and landscaping, Buffat stated. This is the final step that will need us to obstruct traffic.

According to Buffat, the project commenced in March 2024 when ITD began converting University Boulevard at U.S. Highway 20 exit 332 and West Main Street at exit 333 into diverging diamond interchanges.

According to her, both roadways were blocked periodically throughout the year to facilitate the construction, with the exception of the winter, when work was halted.

According to Buffat, this difficulty was necessary to guarantee that the project was finished in a year, since it was anticipated that it would take two summers to do otherwise.

People who reside in and near Rexburg and frequent those locations had to be very patient with the unusual building timeline, according to Buffat.

According to Buffat, the project should be finished in the next month or two, but she is reluctant to give a firm timeline in case any unforeseen problems arise.

According to her, ITD staff members are aware of the impact this project has had on Rexburg’s commuters and residents, but they also value their patience and understanding over the past year, as well as their awareness of the changed traffic patterns.

According to Buffat, we are certain that this will benefit upcoming generations for a very long period. I want to express my gratitude to everyone in eastern Idaho, but especially to the people of Rexburg.
