CLARKIA, IDA The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) has announced that a paving project on a portion of State Highway 3 close to Clarkia will start on Monday, August 4. Weather permitting, the work is anticipated to continue through August 14 and will take place between mileposts 55 and 58.
A pilot car will be used to direct motorists through the work zone while traffic is restricted to one lane during the project. Particularly for commercial and logging truck traffic, delays are anticipated.
According to regional foreman Ross Farrell, this is not the finished product. Until the entire project can be finished the following year, this overlay is intended to buy us time and give us a safer, smoother surface through the winter.
The current effort is a temporary solution to restore the pavement’s worst areas. In 2026, a more thorough full-depth restoration that includes milling and total repaving is planned.
North Idaho and north-central Idaho crews are collaborating to effectively finish this project phase. Collaboration between districts is made possible by the placement close to the border between the two regions.
For real-time traffic updates and information on the effects of construction, drivers are advised to slow down in work zones and visit 511.idaho.gov or the Idaho 511 app.
