One Dead, Two Injured After Head-On Crash East of Lewiston

Lewiston, Idaho A tragic collision that happened Tuesday afternoon on U.S. Highway 12 close to milepost 17.5, approximately 14 miles east of Lewiston, is being looked into by Idaho State Police.

Police say the collision occurred at 4:11 p.m. when an 80-year-old Peck man and his 80-year-old female passenger were going east in a black 2025 Subaru Forester. Preliminary investigations show that the Subaru crossed the center line and collided with a gray 2024 Ford Bronco headed west, which was being driven by a Lewiston lady, 55.

The Ford Bronco rolled onto its side and caught fire as a result of the impact. The woman was taken out of the Bronco by responding drivers because of the imminent risk of a fire. To receive care, she was sent to a nearby hospital via ground ambulance.

The passenger in the Subaru was taken to a hospital via air ambulance after suffering severe injuries. The Subaru’s driver passed away on the spot.

The highway reopened at 8:00 p.m. after being shut for approximately four hours due to the collision.

The following agencies provided assistance at the scene: the Idaho Transportation Department, Lapwai City Fire Department, Lewiston Fire Department, Lewiston EMS, Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office, Nez Perce Tribal Police Department, Nez Perce County Fire Department, Nez Perce County Coroner’s Office, and Life Flight.

Idaho State Police are still investigating the crash.
