Idaho’s Bonner County According to the Idaho Department of Lands, the Sunset Fire, which is roughly 25 miles north of Coeur d Alene, expanded to 2,702 acres on Friday, with the northern border seeing the most activity.
In order to limit its advance, hotshot personnel tried to build firelines in that region with the assistance of aircraft resources. In high terrain and heavy timber, the fire is still burning.
Crews concentrated on fortifying dozer lines along the southern flank and started setting up hose lays to supply water at the edge of the fire. Line-building is still being done by night teams.
According to the most recent official update, 295 workers are deployed to the fire.
Structures and other endangered values are still at danger. In order to deploy point protection where necessary, structure protection teams are actively evaluating the regions along Talache Road and Butler Creek. Work in this area will be supported by additional crews.
Before assuming command, a Complex Incident Management Team is expected to shadow the current organization and conduct an in-brief on Saturday afternoon.
The area is still under evacuation orders. To help displaced residents, an evacuation center has been established at the Cocolalla Bible Camp. Livestock that has been evacuated can be temporarily housed at the Bonner County Fairgrounds.
The USDA Forest Service, the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office, the Idaho Department of Lands, many local county and rural fire departments, and emergency medical services are among the cooperating agencies.
Investigations are still ongoing to determine what caused the Sunset Fire.
