NNU’s annual Community Fair connects students with local businesses

More than 370 new undergraduate students arrived on campus this week at Northwest Nazarene University in Canyon County, Idaho, a notable increase of almost 100 students from the previous fall.

As move-in week energized the Nampa campus, the university also welcomed almost 200 new graduate and professional studies students.

More than fifty local companies, organizations, and churches came together on Friday for the annual Community Fair, which aimed to introduce students and their families to Nampa. The occasion creates connections that go beyond the confines of the campus by acting as a link between the university and the neighborhood.

“More importantly, it’s been the welcoming nature of this community it would be a privilege to be a part of that community, so I’m really grateful to be here,” said Dr. Mark DeMichael, president of NNU

As the school year begins, see how new NNU students are interacting with the Nampa community.

Under DeMichael’s direction as the university’s new president, this is the inaugural autumn orientation. He underlined his dedication to making sure students are accepted right away.

“It really is an opportunity for them to meet our students and our staff and introduce our students to their business a great event to start building relationships,” DeMichael stated.

For area sponsors who come back year after year to meet new students, the Community Fair has grown into a beloved tradition.

“To be honest, orientation is one of my favorite events of the year, and I’m in my sixth or seventh year. The owner of Nampa Chick-fil-A stated, “We interact with students, assist NNU, and even employ some of them.”

The expo gave new students their first taste of what Nampa life had to offer outside of the classroom.

“I really like this fair, it gave me a sense of what this community is like and how, instead of one separate, it brings me unity,” a kid stated.

Another student said, “I’m excited for the basketball games and all the community events — everyone here makes everything feel like home.”

More than just free promotional goods, the Community Fair honors fresh starts and the friendly collaboration between NNU and the Nampa community.

These students’ academic journeys at the university formally begin on Monday when classes begin.
