Murder suspect Travis Decker possibly spotted in Idaho mountains

BOISE (KIVI TV) The public is being asked to help the U.S. Marshals Service Greater Idaho Fugitive Task Force in their search for Travis Decker, a sought murder suspect.

A recent press release states that on Saturday, July 5, U.S. Marshals received a tip from a family who say they saw someone who fit Decker’s description near the Bear Creek area of the Sawtooth National Forest.

The Bear Creek region lies north of Fairfield and southeast of Stanley.

In connection with the May 30 deaths of his daughters, ages 5, 8, and 9, Decker, 32, is wanted by the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office in Washington on three counts of murder and three counts of kidnapping.

The family reported seeing a white man between the ages of 5 and 10 with a ponytail and an overgrown beard. He was dressed in a cream-colored t-shirt, black shorts, a black Garmin watch, a black mesh cap, black gauged earrings, and either Converse or Vans low-top shoes. A black Jan Sport bag was also seen with the individual that was sighted.

The family said that the individual they encountered did not want to make eye contact and did not reply when spoken to, according to a U.S. Marshals representative.

Additionally, the representative informs Idaho News 6 that local cabin owners have been notified of the sighting.

Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison stated during a press conference last month that Decker had lived off the grid for months and is knowledgeable about wilderness survival. Decker has received a lot of military training as well.

Decker was first sighted in McCall in June, and this is the second sighting in Idaho in recent weeks. Sheriff Morrison declared the sighting to be a false alarm on June 4 and stated that it was not our suspect.

On Monday morning, the U.S. Marshals office announced that it would continue to look into the sighting that occurred in Idaho this past weekend.

Please call the U.S. Marshal Service Communication Center at 1-800-336-0102 if you believe you may have seen Travis Decker in or near the Sawtooths in recent days.
