ANACONDA, Montana (AP) — As authorities began a manhunt for the suspect, they reported that four people were murdered in a shooting at a pub in Montana on Friday.

The Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Law Enforcement Center posted on Facebook that the suspect was last spotted in the Stump Town area, which is located immediately west of Anaconda.

According to a statement from the Montana Highway Patrol, he was thought to still be armed.

The Montana Division of Criminal inquiry, which is in charge of the inquiry, said the incident occurred at The Owl Bar on Friday at roughly 10:30 a.m. The agency acknowledged that there was an ongoing investigation and that four persons had been declared dead at the scene.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting have not yet been made public by the authorities.

In Stump Town, around a dozen state and local police officers gathered, seemingly searching the woods for the suspect. According to the Granite County Sheriff’s office, a SWAT squad had previously raided his Anaconda house.

About 120 kilometers (75 miles) southeast of Missoula sits Anaconda.

After learning of the shooting from a friend, the owner of the Firefly Caf in Anaconda claimed she closed up her establishment at around 11 a.m. on Friday. She was still awaiting an all-clear to reopen two hours later.

Guns are nothing new to us since we’re Montana. “Everyone is pretty rattled that our town is locked down,” said Barbie Nelson, the proprietor of the cafe.

Since the community is small, it’s likely that everyone knows someone who witnessed the incident. She went on to say.
