Malden, Washington Five years after the Babb Road Fire devastated much of Malden and nearby Pine City, the Pine Creek Community Restoration Long Term Recovery Organization (LTRO) will celebrate with its fifth annual Fall Festival on Saturday, September 13, 2025, from noon to 4 p.m.
A BBQ lunch, live music by Theresa Edwards and the Bobs, raffles, games, and a bike rodeo with free repairs sponsored by Three Forks Bike are all part of the free community event, which will be held at 119 W. Broadway Avenue in Malden. The public is welcome to attend, and lunch will be served at noon.
According to Pine Creek LTRO board chair Christine Oakley, this year is the fifth anniversary of the fire. Kids of all ages may enjoy the new park equipment, pump track, and competitions like corn hole, sack races, and a pie-eating contest, while visitors can view our new Community Center.
The celebration honors the advancements since the Babb Road Fire in September 2020, which devastated the majority of the two communities. Since then, locals have remodeled their houses and embraced new neighbors. The fire station, post office, library, and event space are all housed in two new public buildings in the neighborhood. An amphitheater, bike repair stations, outdoor showers, and a playground are all features of a trailhead park. High-speed fiber internet is available at both locations, and the new community center has a commercial kitchen.
“It would be a huge understatement to say that this journey has been easy,” Pine Creek LTRO director Chandelle Frick remarked. It has required putting forth daily effort, passion, and a common goal.
Residents can call 509-939-6005 to speak with Chandelle Frick about the festival. Visit pinecreekcommunityrestoration.org to learn more about the new community center and the Pine Creek Community Restoration LTRO.
