Gov. Little orders flags be flown at half staff following attack in northern Idaho

BOISE In remembrance of the firefighters killed in an ambush attack in northern Idaho, flags will be flying at half-staff.

A day after the attack killed two firefighters and gravely injured another, Governor Brad Little issued the directive on Monday.

Firefighters from Kootenai County Fire and Rescue and the Coeur d Alene Fire Department responded to a call on Canfield Mountain, which is located just outside of Coeur d Alene, on June 29. An unidentified suspect, later identified by a Spokesman-Review law enforcement source as 20-year-old Wess Roley, opened fire on firefighters after they arrived.

Authorities think the guy ignited the fire on purpose to entice firemen to come.

Little sent a news release on Monday morning regarding the attack.

The devastating loss of the firemen slain in the horrifying ambush in North Idaho is felt throughout the whole State of Idaho. Every day, all of our public safety officers—especially our firefighters—bravely face risk, but we have never witnessed such a horrific act of brutality against our firefighters. This isn’t Idaho. Everyone in the firefighting community and beyond is greatly affected by this incomprehensible loss. We’re still praying for the victims and their loved ones, so please join Teresa and me, Little said.
