The Portneuf Greenway Foundation has issued the following press release.
POCATELLO The parents of the late Dr. Pawel Paul Abraszewski, Andrzej and Teresa Abraszewksi, have generously donated $50,000 to the Portneuf Greenway Foundation, the Board of Directors is pleased to announce.
The donation will be used to link Sacajawea Park, Historic Downtown Pocatello, and the Pacific Recycling Trailhead with the Simplot/Swanson and Abraszewski paths.
Dan Harelson, president of the board of directors of the Portneuf Greenway Foundation, expressed his immense gratitude for the Abraszewski family’s ongoing generosity and support. Their donation will improve and beautify our neighborhood while giving people more chances to enjoy this lovely area we are fortunate to call home and to connect with nature.
The gift is the Abraszewski family’s second significant contribution. In order to construct the current Abraszewski route, which runs along the Portneuf River on the west side of Pocatello, Lee Abraszewski, Paul’s wife, and Andrzej raised and donated $45,000.
According to Andrzej, he and his spouse wished to give back to Pocatello, the adopted city of his late son. Paul, a cardiologist from the area, died in a terrible kayaking accident in 2007.
According to Andrzej, Paul was aware that nature is essential to enjoying life to the fullest and most cheerfully. He and Teresa hope that everyone who recreates on Greenway pathways will experience the same joy as a result of their donation.
Paul arrived in the United States in 1991, attended medical school, and joined Pocatello Cardiology Associates in 2004. He was born in Warsaw, Poland.
Ben Call, a cardiologist at Portneuf Medical Center and a former colleague of Paul’s, described Dr. Abraszewski’s visit to Pocatello as something of a miracle. We were quite fortunate that he chose to settle in Pocatello, having been born in Poland and receiving his training at some of the best universities in the United States. He liked taking care of the hearts of his patients, his coworkers, and himself.
Dr. Call also recalled Paul’s nobility of spirit, his love of the great outdoors, and his compassion and kindness.
He also loved his parents very much, and Dr. Call noted that we are all blessed by their kind and compassionate gift.
Paul’s buddy and retired physician Ken Ryan recalled him as a really kind man.
According to Dr. Ryan, Paul was a great physician who was always considerate of both his patients and his coworkers. Despite having a demanding and frequently stressful profession, he never lost his temper with others.
Paul and Dr. Ryan also enjoyed whitewater kayaking and went on multiple excursions together. He was a skilled kayaker and a terrific athlete, according to Dr. Ryan.
According to Dr. Ryan, he appeared to love being outside and had, I believe, discovered a property in Idaho that he truly loved.
“I learned to live life to the fullest and make every day count from my late husband,” Lee continued.
The new trail’s preliminary designs are now being created, and more information about groundbreaking and completion will be made public later. Please send an email to [email protected] for additional information.
