Expect lane closures and delays during striping operations in Idaho Falls and other places

The news release from Idaho State Transportation is as follows.

IDAHO GOES DOWN Over the next three weeks, the Idaho Transportation Department and contractor partners will be conducting inlaid striping operations on State Highway 33, U.S. Highway 20, and Interstate 15 Business Loop in Idaho Falls, which will cause traffic disruptions.

Lane closures will start on Tuesday when work is being done on SH-33 between Sage Junction and Rexburg. Traffic will be directed through the work area by flaggers and pilot cars, and four miles at a time will be reduced to one lane. Drivers should be on the lookout for signs signaling construction, big machinery, and a decrease in speed.

The following is the order in which roads will be constructed, with all work anticipated to be finished by August 15:

  • ID-33 between Sage Junction and Rexburg, milepost 59 to 78.
  • US-20 west of Idaho Falls, milepost 301 to 307, beginning next week.
  • I-15 Business Loop in Idaho Falls (Sunnyside Road from I-15 to Yellowstone Road).
  • I-15 Business Loop in Idaho Falls (Yellowstone Road from Sunnyside to Broadway).

The operations on US-20 and SH-33 are taking place during the day. In Idaho Falls, crews will continue to work on the I-15 Business Loop through the night.

This week, SH-33 will only have flaggers and a pilot car. The US-20 and I-15 Business Loop will remain open as traffic is rerouted into a single lane.

In Idaho, inlaid striping is rather uncommon. In order to create recessed notches that paint is then applied within, the pavement is very gently ground into. The purpose of this technique is to increase pavement markings’ lifespan and reflectivity.
