A new big-screen rendition of Jane Austen’s 19th-century novel Sense and Sensibility stars Daisy Edgar-Jones.
The 27-year-old Edgar-Jones announced the news on Instagram, where she included a picture of herself clutching a paperback copy of the book.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Edgar-Jone will portray Elinor, and the movie will be directed by Georgia Oakley (Blue Jean) based on a scenario written by Diana Reid, a novelist.
Austen’s first book, Sense and Sensibility, was originally published in 1811. She went on to write such literary masterpieces as Persuasion, Emma, and Pride and Prejudice. Following sisters Elinor (Edgar-Jones) and Marianne Dashwood as they must leave their family’s Sussex estate, Sense and Sensibility explores love, grief, and financial instability. Marianne Dashwood’s involvement has not yet been revealed.
Over the years, there have been several cinematic adaptations of Sense and Sensibility, most notably the 1995 version directed by Ang Lee and starring Emma Thompson as Elinor Dashwood and Kate Winslet as Marianne. Other earlier adaptations of Austen’s work include Emma (2020), starring Anya-Taylor Joy, and Pride and Prejudice (2005), starring Keira Knightly and Matthew Macfadyen.
