IONA — An impressive car show, dazzling fireworks, bounce houses, water slides and more will be coming to a local city this weekend.

“It is our biggest event of the year. It brings us back to our roots. We see thousands of people who come to our little town of Iona,” said city event coordinator Diana Estrada.

Iona Days will take place on July 18, with the main event on July 19. It’s free to attend and will be at Iona Town Square, 3548 North Main Street.

On Friday, there is an adult pickleball tournament, family games, a softball tournament and a melodrama in the evening. On Saturday, everything kicks off early with a 10k and 5k race at 7 a.m.

“Then we have our breakfast. It’s a free community breakfast at 8 a.m., followed immediately by a parade and a car show,” Estrada said.

Estrada told EastIdahoNews.com that the car show is one of her favorite parts of the weekend. Nearly 100 classic cars are on display.

“I love the car show! It is such a sight to see. It is just so awesome to see what these people have done in restoring some of these vehicles. It blows me away,” she said.

This year, Karen Hansen will be the grand marshal of Iona Days. According to the city website, she served as the first and only female mayor of Iona from 1989 to 1996.

“She was responsible for acquiring the building that we utilize as our city building. So in honor of her, we are renaming the city building as the Karen D Hansen Community Center,” Estrada said.

She was president of the Iona Lions Club for many years, the

. Her family and members from the Lions Club put on the breakfast for Iona Days.

The event offers something for everyone: food and craft vendors, a kids’ fun run, strider bike races, and a cornhole tournament.

Everything wraps up with a 25-minute fireworks show, synced with music. It’s a weekend that you don’t want to miss.

“It’s loads of fun and you’ve got something for every age,” Estrada added.
