The city of Idaho Falls has released the following news release.
IDAHO GOES DOWN The mayor and City Council of Idaho Falls are once again urging the public to support the Community Food Basket Idaho Falls as they celebrate Independence Day at the Greater Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce’s Liberty on Parade.
During the celebration on Friday, July 4, volunteers, City Council members, and Mayor Rebecca Casper will gather cash donations along the parade route. The team will take monetary and digital donations via Venmo in lieu of canned food donations. Additionally, volunteers will distribute fliers with the Community Food Basket’s Most Needed Items and a QR code that connects to their Venmo account for convenient and speedy online donations.
According to Idaho Falls Mayor Rebecca Casper, the Fourth of July is a time for our town to come together in celebration and to showcase our unique selves. In addition to enjoying the parade, our sponsorship of the Community Food Basket helps guarantee that families in Idaho Falls have access to necessities. That is a cause for celebration.
With the help of a vintage fire truck that Farr’s Candy kindly donated, the mayor and City Council will be escorted down the parade route this year by volunteers.
“The Community Food Basket Idaho Falls’ executive director, Ariel Jackson, stated that community support is what keeps our shelves stocked and our doors open.” Even modest contributions can make a significant difference; for example, $1 can be converted into $4.80 worth of food, which is more than sufficient to feed a family of four. We are very thankful to the City of Idaho Falls for assisting us in meeting this increasing need, and every donation made during the parade helps us serve meals to local families experiencing food insecurity.
On Friday, July 4, the Liberty on Parade event starts at 9 a.m. Beginning close to Idaho Falls High School, the procession will proceed down 4th Street before turning south on Boulevard to Tautphaus Park.
Locals are urged to participate in the festivities and seize this chance to help their less fortunate neighbors.
