Christ’s Love Vineyard takes over historic Pocatello church

POCATELLO Christ’s Love Vineyard, a non-denominational Christian church, has purchased the historic First Congregational United Church of Christ (FCUCC), located at 309 North Garfield, which has been there for 121 years.

The building has been a vital part of the Pocatello community for more than a century, and the new pastors, Dustin Andrew and Kimberly, are eager to start a new, spirit-filled chapter in it.

For thirty years, Christ’s Love Vineyard has been a member of the Pocatello religious community. The location, which many people recall as the old Bengal Hut on 2nd Street, was the site of the congregation’s most recent worship.

The couple claims that because their church family has expanded to about 100 members, many of whom are families with small children, they had outgrown that space.

Christ’s Love Vineyard was able to acquire the FCUCC facility thanks to the efforts of Dustin and Kimberly, both of whom are residents of east Idaho.

Dustin remarked, “We had been praying fervently for a new building.” This was the first MLS listing that appeared when the Lord led me to look at some one evening. And now we are.

Kimberly, a counselor, and Dustin, a contractor, have been working nonstop to renovate and clean the old church. Volunteers who are willing to assist with upkeep, repairs, and cleaning are welcome.

Kimberly remarked, “We have faith that the Lord will bring us the right people.” We’ll put you to work if you come see us.

The Andrews found an 1845 Bible, a box of old hymnals, and numerous antique photographs while cleaning out the church. Anyone who would like to take an old hymnal is welcome, and the public is welcome to come and claim any images that may be theirs.

Since Christ’s Love Vineyard isn’t equipped for overnight stays, the church refuge will no longer be a component of the structure after the move. The pastors are steadfast in their resolve to serve those in need by providing spiritual support and guidance as well as helping people get through difficult times.

The thrift store that used to be located there will also formally close. On Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., there will be a church rummage sale with clothing, furniture, home décor, and more. There will also be a special deal to fill a bag for $3.

Alcoholics Anonymous meetings will still be held at the church’s new site. It also has a youth group for 12 to 17-year-olds and its own 12-step rehabilitation program. Every fall, the church also organizes a women’s retreat in Challis.

During the First Friday Art Walk in Historic Old Town Pocatello, the Andrews intend to carry on the custom of inviting locals and people of all faiths to perform the historic pipe organ and grand piano.

The town’s oldest organ is this one. According to Dustin, playing it keeps it in tune.

“We are thankful that this opportunity presented itself at the ideal moment,” Kimberly stated. In addition to honoring the history of this site and enhancing the beauty of features like the stained-glass windows and vintage oak pews, we pray that we can create a warm environment where people can gather for friendship, healing, and faith.

Kimberly went on to say, “We want to use the church and the gym for weddings, parties, and sports.” We are pleading with the Lord to reveal what is required and what we may do differently.

Sometime in July, the church’s customary musical Sunday morning services will start at 10:30 a.m. with drums, bass guitar, and piano.

“We want to restore this church and make it a full house of worship for the entire community, but it will take a lot of time and money,” the Andrews said. Because we love the Lord, we act in this way.
