CALDWELL Police say a father shot and murdered his 18-year-old daughter inside a Caldwell home, leading to his arrest Monday night.
Around 4 p.m., a youngster reported seeing his father, 51-year-old Delbert Cornish, inside the house with a gun. Police then arrived at the 1600 block of Blaine Street.
The Caldwell Police Department claims that Cornish attempted to prevent his son from leaving and threatened a family member. The teenager contacted 911 after a brief scuffle and managed to flee safely.
After securing the area, officers went into the house and discovered a weapon and an 18-year-old lady who had died. Her identity is still unknown.
Cornish was tracked to Mountain Home by investigators using Automated License Plate Reader technology. At 7:30 p.m., he was taken into custody.
In a statement, Caldwell Police Chief Rex Ingram stated, “I am deeply saddened for the family and friends affected by this horrific act of family violence. My heart is heavy.” I am appreciative of the exceptional cooperation and collaborations with our external agencies that helped us locate and apprehend this monster without any problems.
The case was helped by the Nampa Police Department’s K9 team, the Mountain Home Police Department, the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office, and the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office.
