Big East, ESPN reunite with 6-year media rights deal

On Tuesday, ESPN and the Big East Conference signed a six-year agreement for digital media rights.

“The agreement gives all 22 of our sports, especially women’s basketball and Olympic sports, the visibility they’ve earned and the access our fans expect,” Big East Commissioner Val Ackerman said in a statement.

Our dedication to putting Big East clubs front and center on the top digital sports platform is furthered by this exciting agreement with ESPN, Ackerman stated.

From 1980 until 2013, ESPN owned the Big East rights. After ESPN lost the Big Ten media rights to Fox, NBC, and CBS in 2022, the agreement was rekindled.

We are happy to have the Big East return to ESPN. According to a statement from the network’s senior vice president of programming and acquisitions, Nick Dawson. With this deal, ESPN platforms will once again have access to one of the top conferences in the nation and its illustrious history. We’re excited for this new phase of our partnership with the Big East.

Every year, ESPN+ will broadcast more than 300 Big East games. The announcement omitted the deal’s financial details.

After winning its 12th national championship in April, the UConn women’s basketball team led the Big East in a challenging 2024–2025 campaign. The men’s basketball team from St. John’s had a successful regular season and was seeded second in the NCAA Tournament before losing to No. 10 Arkansas in the second round.
