Bengal Theater to host free showings of Ukraine war documentary ‘A Faith Under Siege’

POCATELLO The Bengal Theater at Idaho State University will screen a compelling video on the covert religious conflict in Ukraine on Wednesday, July 2.

At 5 and 7 p.m., A Faith Under Siege: Russia’s Hidden War on Ukraine’s Christians will be screened. The public is welcome and admission is free.

Lena Contor, a local campaigner and native Ukrainian, brought the movie to Pocatello on a personal level. The American Coalition for Ukraine hosted the Ukraine Action Summit in Washington, D.C., in April, which she and her husband attended. One of the film’s producers, whom they met there, encouraged viewers to spread the film’s message throughout their local communities.

For her efforts in planning cultural events, refugee support drives, and humanitarian help initiatives, Contor is well-known in the Pocatello community. She continues to act as an advocate and interpreter and has made multiple trips to Europe to help Ukrainian refugees.

When Contor returned to Pocatello, he contacted Bob Devine, coordinator of the Pocatello Film Society, which plays independent and socially conscious films at the Bengal Theater on a regular basis. Devine consented to provide two complimentary public showings of the documentary.

Pocatello viewers will get the chance to ask questions and hear directly from Contor and her husband during a post-screening discussion, in addition to the film’s eye-opening video and testimony. The pair will help local participants better comprehend this humanitarian and spiritual dilemma because they have personal connections to the ongoing battle.

According to Contor, people believe that this conflict is about resources and territory. This movie demonstrates that it is a genocide and that dealing with terrorists is impossible.

The 60-minute documentary A Faith Under Siege, which was directed by Yaroslav Lodygin of Ukraine, highlights the frequently disregarded religious persecution occurring in areas of Ukraine that are under Russian occupation. Pastors have been tortured or killed, thousands of Ukrainian children have been kidnapped or forced to flee their homes, and Protestant and evangelical churches have been taken or destroyed.

Although Evangelical and Protestant churches account for a sizable portion of the population, this phenomenon affects all churches, according to Contor.

On May 6, A Faith Under Siege made its debut at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., and on May 10, it was aired nationally on CBN News. Since then, prominent people including Pat Boone, Gordon Robertson, and former CIA Director David Petraeus have praised it.

“This film is being shown for free because the producers don’t care about making money,” Contor stated. In order for people to comprehend the truth of the religious persecution that is taking place, we want as many people to watch it as possible.

After 4 p.m., parking is free in the lots close to the Pond Student Union. At the 5 p.m. screening, subtitles will be accessible. The first 50 people who arrive at each screening will receive free popcorn.
