RENO, Nev. (AP) – Following a shooting at a casino in Reno, Nevada, on Monday morning, authorities informed The Associated Press that at least two individuals were shot dead and three more were injured.

According to authorities, the shooter who opened fire outside the Grand Sierra Resort casino shot many individuals before being apprehended.

According to a police statement, an officer-involved shooting occurred after officers quickly discovered the subject. After being arrested, the suspect was transferred to a nearby hospital. The current state of the suspect is unknown. The public is not known to be in any ongoing danger.

Chris Johnson, a spokesman for the Reno police, said it was also unclear what the victims’ conditions were at the time.

Renown Regional Medical Center spokeswoman Caroline Ackerman reported that multiple individuals with gunshot wounds were admitted to the hospital’s emergency room.

According to Johnson, the shooting was reported outside the valet area on Monday at roughly 7:30 a.m.

Two guys were accused more than a year ago of shooting and killing another man who was visiting the resort in January 2024.

On Monday, Reno police issued a warning to locals to avoid the area. Outside the casino, a number of emergency vehicles, including numerous ambulances, arrived.

Situated a short distance from Reno-Tahoe International Airport, the Grand Sierra boasts the largest casino floor in northern Nevada. With almost 2,000 hotel rooms, it’s also one of the city’s highest structures.

The resort’s largest ballroom served as the venue for a campaign rally by President Donald Trump last November.

For the victims, their families, and our community as a whole, my heart bleeds. Devon Reese, a member of the city council, stated on social media that although Reno is resilient, we are not exempt from the nationwide gun violence epidemic.
