AAA: Lower Prices Expected to Drive Busy Labor Day Travel Weekend

Published On:

BOISE, ID With reduced hotel, ticket, and rental car costs, AAA predicts a bustling Labor Day holiday weekend that will entice millions of Americans to enjoy one more summer vacation.

Although Labor Day forecasts aren’t as closely monitored as those for Memorial Day or the Fourth of July, this year’s early holidays set records, indicating a high turnout for the coming weekend, said AAA Idaho Public Affairs Director Matthew Conde.

Travel Trends and Traffic CongestionTwo major waves of heavy traffic are anticipated: all day Saturday, when many families will leave for shorter vacations, and Thursday and Friday afternoons, when travelers will mix with commuter traffic. Due to school scheduling, the majority of travelers are anticipated to return on Monday afternoon. AAA advises beginning travel early in order to escape the worst traffic.

Seattle, Anaheim, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Boston, San Diego, Honolulu, Anchorage, Ft. Lauderdale, and New York City are among the top places to visit on Labor Day.

Reduced Travel ExpensesDomestic flights are 6% less expensive than they were a year ago, hotels are 11% less expensive, and rental vehicles are 3% less expensive, according to AAA’s national booking data. Additionally, gas prices have decreased in 2025, which would enable families to devote a larger portion of their budget on activities or meals.

Roadside Assistance and Safety Advice Over the weekend, AAA expects to answer to around 394,000 calls for roadside assistance across the country, including about 730 in Idaho. Pre-trip car inspections, tire pressure and engine fluid checks, and roadside supplies like water, snacks, and towels are all advised for travelers.

AAA recommends getting enough sleep before flight, arriving early, and downloading airline apps for updates. Due to the restricted number of walk-up sites, campers are urged to arrive early.

Travel, insurance, and auto services are provided to 900,000 members by AAA Idaho, a division of AAA Oregon/Idaho. AAA represents over 63 million drivers nationwide.
