The Montpelier On Friday night, many law enforcement agencies assisted in executing what investigators are referring to as a high-risk search warrant in Montpelier.

The incident’s specifics are unclear. Around 11 p.m., witnesses saw dozens of police cars traveling into town on the highway, including Bingham County Sheriff’s Office deputies, a SWAT squad, a STAR team, and a drug dog. The precise location and nature of the suspect’s crimes have not been disclosed by the authorities.

Montpelier Police Chief Blake Wells confirmed the involvement of the Southeastern Idaho STAR Team, a regional tactical squad made up of SWAT officers with specialized training, in the reaction in a news release sent to EastIdahoNews.com on Saturday morning.

The decision was made to use the STAR Team’s experience and sophisticated equipment to ensure the safe execution of the warrant because of the nature of the investigation and the possible safety hazards involved, according to Wells. No officers, suspects, or members of the community were reported injured during the incident-free operation.

While Bingham County Sheriff Jeff Gardner told EastIdahoNews.com that a group of deputies were present, he sent questions about the incident to Bear Lake County Sheriff Bart Heslington.

Gardner states, “It’s not my place to provide details.”

A call to the Bear Lake County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday morning was unsuccessful in reaching Heslington.

Wells stated in the news release on Saturday that more details will be made public as they become available.

He expressed his gratitude for the assistance of the other participating agencies, whose concerted efforts made the operation safer and more successful. These include the Idaho State Fire Marshal’s Office, Bear Lake Ambulance, and the Montpelier City Fire Department.

According to Wells, this cooperative endeavor highlights the need of interagency relationships in protecting the public and guaranteeing the safe and efficient execution of law enforcement activities. The STAR Team and all assisting agencies are acknowledged by the Montpelier Police Department for their professionalism and help throughout this operation.

Updates will be posted on EastIdahoNews.com as soon as they are available.
