Day one in the Twin Falls School District; Sawtooth Elementary rolls out new safety policy

Idaho’s Twin Falls Goodbye, summer vacation!
“Congratulations! There were several Sawtooth students shouting, “School!!!”
For the approximately 9,000 kids in the Twin Falls School District, the new academic year has officially begun. On Monday, Joey Martin, a neighborhood reporter, visited Sawtooth Elementary and O’Leary Middle Schools, where the staff and kids are eager to start the new year.

Ace Marcellus, the principle of O’Leary Middle School, declared, “I’m so excited to see all the kids back; we’re ready for them, and we’re going to have a great year.”
“The parents were thrilled to see the children return, and it was enjoyable. “We had a pleasant morning,” Sawtooth Elementary Principal Noell Bautista remarked.
Every school in the district has its own set of safety regulations. Parents and children will notice some changes at Sawtooth Elementary this year, according to Principal Noell Bautista.
“Students’ safety is getting better. In addition to ensuring the safety of our students, we also want our community to have access to our expansive playground, which is beautiful and great, outside of school hours,” Noell Bautista stated.
A new process for parent pick-up and fencing off the entire playground area are two of the new safety precautions.
Parents’ cars will have these cute little banners hanging from the rearview mirror. The student’s name will appear on the placard when the autos approach our assigned loop. After school, the kids will hop in the car and drive home when we pull them up,” Bautista said.
“It’s okay if parents choose to walk their children to class before school. However, we ask that they stay outside the gated area once the first bell rings.
In an effort to minimize traffic, the school is also implementing a staggered release schedule.
“The children who are being picked up by their parents will exit the hallway first. Next is bus pickup, which takes place in a separate loop in front of our building. In order for the walkers to return home with their siblings, they will be freed last,” Bautista continued.
Each student will receive one placard during this trial run, but families are welcome to request additional ones at the school office.
