Idaho’s Garden City Due to a new city project, a portion of the Greenbelt adjacent to Expo Idaho will close starting on September 2.

Between the Plantation Island Bridge and the Boise Riverside RV Park, the half-mile stretch follows Expo Idaho. According to county officials, hundreds of people commute, bike, and walk along the walkway every day.

We can’t wait to see the park. It’s fantastic. That’s fine with us. However, why close this down? One neighbor, who has been in the neighborhood since 1979, said, “You’re affecting a lot of people that’s really unnecessary by closing this down.”

Although Scott Koberg, the director of Ada County Parks and Waterways, admitted that the closure will cause inconvenience, he stated that the Greenbelt must be incorporated into the park’s future design.

This will be diverted and incorporated into the Park at Expo Idaho as part of the proposed park. It will be expanded. It will pass a fantastic skate park. Lots of fresh flora, trees, and plantings. Therefore, when the park is finished, it will appear very different from how it looks now,” Koberg stated.

Eventually, the project will include wetlands, a pavilion, and additional nature pathways. Koberg stated that users will have to find other routes in the interim.

Closing the Greenbelt is difficult. However, given how this new park will appear once it is finished, I believe the juice will be worth the squeeze. “It will be a tremendous new asset to the community,” he remarked.

In January, the Greenbelt area is expected to reopen. It is anticipated that The Park at Expo Idaho would open in late 2026.
