Junior Day is a big hit among kids on the final day of the Albertsons Boise Open

Idaho’s Boise Sunday is a unique day at the Boise Open because a champion is crowned, but it’s also special because it’s Junior Day, when kids under 15 enter free of charge.

Hats, sweets, and a complimentary lunch were among the many items of swag given to the kids. Additionally, they have the opportunity to practice golf, which is a new experience for several of these children.

“You actually get to hold a club and swing it,” Zel remarked, expressing profound admiration for the young players on the Korn Ferry Tour. “They are good, they are really good.”

A statewide non-profit organization called First Teeis uses golf to help young children. Kids could drive, chip, and put in the large activity area that First Tee has set up. They even played a game of golf called tic tac toe toe, which was very popular and led to a rivalry between two cousins.

Watch as these young golfers learn the ropes!

Lincoln remarked, “I love the tic tac toe because it is not hard.” “I beat him like ten times before, and then I lost on TV,” Reese chuckled. “Yeah, so I’m better,” Lincoln said.

In the afternoon, First Tee also offered golf instruction on the driving range. During the session, a number of PGA players from the Rocky Mountain Section coached the youngsters with their swing, and it was very evident that they were getting better.

“It’s the best,” First Tee executive director Nick Blasius responded when someone asked him what the leader board looked like, even though he hadn’t even looked at it. “It has just been fun hanging out with all the kids and seeing this next generation of golfers.”

Perhaps one of these players will play in the Albertsons Boise Open and Korn Ferry Tournament someday!

Sponsored by St. Luke’s Health, Junior Day has been held at this event for the past five years.
