The Sand Creek Ponderosa and Cedar Ridge neighborhoods, as well as the five-mile radius surrounding the Sadorus Hill region, were ordered to evacuate by Fremont County late Friday afternoon. Saturday is still covered by that order. Residents are cautioned by officials not to try to visit the area until an all-clear notice has been issued.
Although there have been no reported injuries as of yet, structures are in danger, and a rural outbuilding was destroyed, according to Interagency spokesman Juley Smith, who talked to EastIdahoNews.com.
The fire is still quite active, and with thunderstorms and strong winds predicted for Saturday, there are worries that it may continue to expand.
With assistance from air tankers and aircraft, about 130 firemen from both municipal and federal organizations are fighting the fire.
Smith said lightning was the cause of the Sand Creek Fire.
The fire was 0% contained as of Saturday at 9:30 a.m., and there is no estimate for complete containment.
