EUGENE, ORT After a routine car stop in Linn County turned up more than 100 pounds of illegal narcotics, two individuals who are illegally residing in the United States are being charged with federal drug trafficking.
On July 30, 2025, an Oregon State Police trooper stopped 29-year-old Jesus Campos Roman, a Mexican national, and 27-year-old Eduar David Freites-Mosquera, a Bolivian national, who were both illegally residing in Washington, while they were traveling on Interstate 5, according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
Officers searched the car after a drug detection dog warned them of the presence of drugs. Investigators discovered four pounds of fentanyl tablets, five pounds of cocaine, and more than 110 pounds of methamphetamine inside the trunk.
Roman and Freites-Mosquera are accused of conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute cocaine, fentanyl, and methamphetamine in a criminal complaint. Both were ordered to stay in detention pending additional legal proceedings when they made their first appearances in federal court on July 31.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Huynh of the District of Oregon is prosecuting the case, while the DEA and Oregon State Police are conducting the investigation.
According to authorities, both men are presumed innocent unless proven guilty, and a criminal complaint is only an allegation.
