Idaho Wildland Firefighters to Receive Bonuses Amid Peak Fire Season

BOISE, ID Governor Brad Little said Friday that more than 300 firefighters and vital fire support personnel in Idaho would start receiving one-time incentives of up to $5,000 today.

The bonuses are intended to honor firefighting personnel’s accomplishments and improve staff retention during the peak wildfire season. They are a portion of a $1 million budget approved by the Idaho Legislature through the Governor’s Keeping Promises initiative.

Governor Little said, “Our firefighters have done an amazing job so far this season of keeping fires small.” These incentives are a heartfelt way to express gratitude to our courageous Idaho firemen and the support crew.

The bonuses will be given out by the Idaho Department of Lands, which is in charge of the state’s response to wildland fires:

  • $5,000 for permanent foremen
  • $3,000 for permanent fire wardens, assistant wardens, storekeepers, and dispatchers
  • $2,000 for permanent red-carded staff
  • $1,500 for returning seasonal firefighters
  • $1,000 for first-year seasonal firefighters

As Idaho moves into its busiest fire season of the year, Governor Little stressed the value of honoring both frontline responders and those offering vital backstage assistance.
