REXBURG On August 2, a local real estate company is hosting a scavenger hunt with a minimum prize of $5,000.
Inspired by the reality show The Amazing Race, Real Estate Two70 is sponsoring an event dubbed The Great Rexburg Race. The scavenger hunt will be held in Rexburg and is open to competitors of all ages. The organizers hope to raise the winnings prior to the event day because the $5,000 prize is an open pot.
According to Sydney McCleve, a real estate agent at Real Estate Two70, “it’s a scavenger hunt across Rexburg, but we did a twist to make it more like The Amazing Race, so there’s actually going to be detours available, actual obstacles, and actual ciphers.” The code, which presently has ten clues, will need to be cracked. A couple of our run-throughs took between three and a half and four hours.
Years ago, while she and her husband were managers of a university student housing complex, McCleve had the idea for the hunt.
Three years in a row, we organized a scavenger hunt for the students. It was a lot of fun to throw those opportunities, but we just spent whatever we had in our budget—the ultimate prize was about $200. “I’ve always wanted to do it for the community’s families, not just the students,” McCleve added.
There will be a celebration with bouncy houses, food vendors, and other activities following the scavenger hunt.
At Porter Park, the scavenger hunt will begin at 11 a.m., and the after-party will take place there from 4 to 8 p.m.
The cost of admission varies according on age. Teenagers pay $15 per person, adults pay $25, and children under 12 enter free of charge. The Rexburg Quest website allows you to register for the event here.
McCleve added that volunteers were needed to assist with running the after-party. In addition to other tasks, volunteers will assist with setting up and taking down the event. You can sign up here if you would want to volunteer.
