Investigators say Woman ‘Played Coy’ as she Helped Plan her Brother’s Stabbing at Clarkston Motel 6

CLARKSTON, WA – A 65-year-old Wyoming woman was arrested Monday in connection to the June stabbing of her brother at a Clarkston motel. Phyllis K. Krogman is facing a felony charge of conspiracy to commit attempted murder in the first degree.

According to court documents, Krogman was taken into custody on Monday at the Asotin County Courthouse, shortly after attending a bond hearing for her husband, Thomas Krogman. He was previously arrested in Wyoming on a warrant for attempted murder related to the same case.

The investigation stems from an incident on June 2, when 72-year-old Daniel Henry was brutally stabbed in the face, chest, and back by a male suspect at Motel 6 in Clarkston. That suspect was later identified as Thomas Krogman, Phyllis Krogman’s husband, who had driven 13 hours from Gillette, Wyoming, to Clarkston.

Police say Phyllis Krogman contacted Henry—her brother—approximately a day and a half before the attack, and “played coy” while using a pretense of visiting him for her birthday. During the call, she allegedly obtained Henry’s location and employment information. The affidavit states she had not spoken to her brother in over a decade prior to that call.

Krogman allegedly confronted Henry with past accusations of childhood abuse involving their sisters, though Henry denied the claims and the call ended abruptly, say the documents.

Further evidence presented in the affidavit includes recorded jail phone calls between Phyllis and Thomas after his arrest. In one call, Phyllis expressed frustration and stated repeatedly that she wanted to know when her brother would “pay the price” for what he had done. She referenced multiple family members who she claimed were also victims, stating, “We were all quiet and look where it’s got me.”

Investigators believe these statements, combined with the timing and nature of her communications with the victim and her husband, establish probable cause that Phyllis Krogman assisted in facilitating the attack.

Phyllis was escorted from the courthouse lobby and placed under arrest. She requested to speak with an attorney before further questioning. As of Tuesday morning, she was still being held as the investigation continues.

Thomas Krogman remains in custody following his earlier arrest on an attempted murder charge.  He has pleaded not guilty in the case.
