The county of Jefferson While attempting to deliver a Walmart order, a Spanish-speaking woman was instructed to return to Mexico with her gun pulled, and a man was charged.
The 59-year-old Jeffrey Lee McCanch faces one count of felony aggravated assault.
According to court filings, the victim is employed by Spark Driver, an app that lets users request deliveries from Walmart and other companies. The victim had an order sent to McCanch’s home on June 23.
When the victim first arrived at the house, a man who was later identified as McCanch came out and yelled at her to leave the property and return to Mexico, she said deputies in an interview with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
When McCanch returned home with a shotgun, the victim allegedly attempted to show him the order on her phone. The victim claimed that once McCanch racked the gun and pointed it at them, they fled in terror.
According to documents, the woman was sobbing and clearly scared as she described the experience at the sheriff’s office.
Deputies visited McCanch’s home. Although he denied ever pointing the gun at the victim, he allegedly admitted to deputies that he had confronted her with the shotgun and ordered her to return to Mexico. Deputies verified that McCanch’s wife had ordered a delivery from Walmart.
McCanch may not have committed these offenses, even if he has been charged with them. Until someone is proven guilty, they are all presumed innocent. He faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $5,000 fine if convicted.
