Utah’s Brigham City (ABC4) After allegedly trying to impose their open-marriage lifestyle on a third party, a husband and wife in northern Utah have been charged with sexual abuse in addition to crimes involving weapons and drugs.

Ryan Wood, 37, was accused of first-degree felony forcible sodomy, first-degree felony object rape, second-degree felony for complicity in forcible sexual assault, and capital/first-degree criminal obstruction of justice.

The 37-year-old K Dee Wood was accused of first-degree criminal accomplice to forced sodomy, second-degree felony forcible sexual abuse, and first-degree felony complicity to object rape. The Brigham City District Court received the charges.

Police said in the indictment that the Woods were in an open marriage and that they had previously spoken with the victim, who expressed her disinterest in that way of life.

On May 2, the two allegedly invited the victim to their house for dinner and consumed multiple shots of alcohol. According to the indictment, K Dee and Ryan started sexually abusing the victim while she was intoxicated.

The victim and others were allegedly contacted and texted by the Woods after the incident. Documents show that they acknowledged the victim was so inebriated that she was unconscious and/or unable to recall, that she was unaware of her actions, and that it was inferred that she was unable to give her permission.

According to documents, Ryan Wood tried to erase incriminating text messages after officers served a search warrant on the Woods residence and electronic devices. However, officers stopped him by placing the phone in airplane mode and placing it in a Faraday bag, which blocks any electronic signals from entering or leaving.

In carrying out the search warrant on their residence for the first case, investigators found three rifles, a handgun, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia, according to court filings for a connected case. K Dee and Ryan were consequently charged with three counts of banned dangerous weapon conduct, which is a third-degree felony; two counts of class B misdemeanor possession or use of a controlled substance; and one count of class B misdemeanor possession or use of drug paraphernalia.

July 7 was the date of the Woods’ first court appearance.

Charges are only accusations. Until and unless they are proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, everyone who is arrested is deemed innocent.
