The Idaho Falls Police Department has released the following news release.

IDAHO GOES DOWN When someone contacted 911 to report that a man had been stabbed, Idaho Falls Police Officers arrived at the Fred Meyer parking lot at 2250 North Yellowstone Highway at 2:42 a.m. yesterday, July 4, 2025. When officers came, they found the man and began helping him right away. The person was taken to a nearby hospital by Idaho Falls Fire EMS, who quickly arrived and took over medical treatment.

The victim had visited the Shady Rest Campground, which is situated at 2200 North Yellowstone Highway, according to information obtained by the officers. Mariano Rodriguez, who was later identified as the victim’s argument partner, stabbed the victim with a knife during the altercation. Another person contacted 911 and drove the victim to the Fred Meyer parking lot.

Rodriguez was gone from the Shady Rest Campground when police arrived. Detectives discovered that he was in a house in the 1100 block of Mojave Street after conducting an investigation.

The IFPD SWAT Team arrived at the address just before 8 p.m. yesterday after securing a search warrant. The SWAT officers announced their identities and told Rodriguez to leave the house. Rodriguez emerged and was safely brought into custody. Rodriguez’s injuries from the altercation with the victim prompted him to be sent to a nearby hospital for a medical clearance.

Mariano Rodriguez, 30, of Idaho Falls, was arrested for aggravated violence with a deadly weapon later that night and taken to the Bonneville County Jail.

The investigation is still ongoing, and the victim, Rodriguez, and witnesses all provided somewhat different versions of what happened during interviews with authorities. Indeed, this seems to be a singular occurrence.
