POCATELLO Becky Koyle founded Gate City Singles, a community club in Pocatello that provides a wide range of activities for adults aged 35 to 60ish, including both adults-only events and family-friendly get-togethers for those with kids, after realizing the need for connections among local singles.
After observing how many local singles, including those with families, felt alone or ignored, Koyle, a pianist and digital marketing specialist who has lived in Pocatello for 20 years, said she founded the club.
According to her, a lot of single people feel really lonely and unfulfilled. Connecting with others, finding joy in the little things, and remembering that there is hope are the best ways to overcome that.
Over 600 people have joined the club in just four months, and Koyle has organized weekly social events like movie evenings, pickleball tournaments, dance, local theater, and camping excursions.
According to Koyle, the objective is to support neighborhood organizations and companies like Boots & Wheels, which hosts line and swing dancing on Mondays at the Deleta Skating & Family Fun Center, while also assisting individuals in developing genuine connections.
One of the group’s most significant events to date is quickly approaching. The Lava Hot Springs Transformational Singles Retreat, scheduled for July 10–14, aims to unite single individuals for enjoyment, personal development, and forming new friendships in a laid-back and picturesque environment.
If you’re sick of awkward icebreakers and small conversation, this retreat is for you, Koyle added. It is intended for those who wish to make lasting experiences, form new connections, and experience genuine connection.
Late-night giggles, deep discussions, dancing, food, a river float, and plenty of opportunity to soak in Lava’s well-known hot springs are all part of the five-day retreat. The Lava Hot Springs Transformational Singles Retreat has all the information you need, including registration details.
Koyle makes sure that one or two family-friendly events are planned each month for parents who wish to go with their kids, even if the majority of the activities, like the Lava Retreat, are intended for adults to unwind and socialize.
One of the most well-liked family excursions was a camping trip in the spring at Steadman’s Ranch on the Raft River. It offers activities, cuisine, water slides, and camping. In September, there will be another campout at the same spot.
It was a blast at Steadman’s. “We are eager to repeat it,” Koyle remarked.
In the future, Koyle wants to establish a foundation to assist in paying for events that could be out of reach for unmarried people.
Koyle also started a side club called the Flying Solo Society for people dealing with more private issues like addiction, anxiety, or depression. It is being created in collaboration with LaMonte Wilcox, the creator of the neuroscience-based addiction treatment and mental wellness program F.L.Y. (Fulfill Life Yourself). NAAP (Neuro Auto-Associative Programming), a technique developed by Wilcox, assists individuals in reshaping negative thought habits and strengthening their sense of self.
“I have a strong interest in both personal growth and brain science,” Koyle stated. Becoming the best version of yourself is the goal of this group.
