BOISE Over the Fourth of July weekend, one of the deadliest travel holidays of the year, the Idaho State Police will be stepping up patrols in southwest Idaho. Due to increased travel and drunk driving, there is a higher risk of road fatalities over the Christmas season.
ISP will deploy a squad of troopers to the McCall area, a well-liked location for Fourth of July festivities, to assist in maintaining the safety of holiday traffic. Additionally, starting today through July 6, troopers will participate in the Treasure Valley DUI Task Force’s Fourth of July Operation.
According to Captain Michael Winans, we have looked at a number of tragic collisions in the last month in which seat belts were not used. Buckling up is the first step towards ensuring that everyone reaches their destination safely.
ISP reminds drivers that whether it’s making sure your car is road-ready or organizing a sober ride, safety begins even before you leave the driveway.
Prior to you leaving:
Examine your car.Check the fluid levels, lights, brakes, and tires.
Prepare an emergency supply kit.A torch, basic tools, a first-aid kit, water, munchies, jumper cables, and a phone charger should all be included.
Make a plan for your journey.Check traffic, give yourself extra time, and try to avoid busy travel times.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that between 2019 and 2023, approximately 2,650 people lost their lives in motor vehicle crashes during the Fourth of July holiday, with 40% of those fatalities being impaired.
Drivers should dial *ISP (*477) or 911 if they see reckless driving or need emergency help.
