Colorado’s Grand Junction. One more day. More pitching and power. Another victory for the Idaho Falls Chukars.

At Suplizio Field in Grand Junction, Colorado, on Thursday night, the Chukars (22-10) recorded another victory, defeating the Jackalopes (12-20) 8-3 thanks to strong pitching and home runs.

With big flies from Anthony Mata (2), Garret Ostrander (2), Johnny Pappas (4), and Simon Baumgardt (2), Idaho Falls increased its league-high team home run total to 66.

This time, starter Garrett Van Deventer put in the pitching effort.

Van Deventer (W, 3-3) pitched seven innings, striking out five batters without walking and limiting the Jackalopes to five hits and two runs.

In the second inning, the Chukars took a 2-0 lead. In the third, fourth, and sixth innings, they added single runs. Grand Junction was never able to bridge that distance thanks to Van Deventer.

When the same two teams take the field again on Friday, the Chukars will try to win the series. At 6:35 p.m., the first pitch is scheduled.
