DENVER (AP) In the midst of one of baseball’s worst starts ever, the Colorado Rockies promoted Dick Monfort’s oldest son.

The Rockies announced that Walker Monfort was named executive vice president on Thursday. He will take over as team leader immediately, replacing departing President and COO Greg Feasel, who is leaving at the end of this year after 30 seasons in the front office.

The Rockies have an 18-62 record going into their home game against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday. Colorado’s regular season was halfway through when they played their 81st game.

By January, 38-year-old Walker Monfort, who has served as the team’s VP of business partnerships since 2015, will formally take over Feasel’s duties.

In 1995, Feasel became vice president of sales and marketing for the Rockies. In 2010, he was elevated to chief operations officer and executive vice president, and in April 2021, he was made club president.

According to Dick Monfort, owner of the Rockies, Greg has been a cornerstone of this club since its inception. His vision and leadership influenced not only the Colorado Rockies organization but also the Rocky Mountain baseball community as a whole. He has been a solid and consistent presence for the past thirty years and has played a significant role in our numerous accomplishments throughout the years.

Although Feasel acknowledged that leaving is bittersweet, he claimed he has been talking to the owner about it for a number of years.

From 2006 until 2009, Walker Monfort started his work with the Rockies at an entry level and gained practical experience in a variety of departments, including ticketing, gameday marketing, grounds crew, and visiting clubhouse. He worked in player development and minor league operations until 2013, when he formally began working in the front office full-time in late 2009.

We appreciate Greg’s contribution and influence, but we are eager to start our next chapter with Walker. “Dick Monfort said.” His 20 years of experience working in and with every department of our operation have given him a thorough understanding of this firm. He brings a new, optimistic outlook, and we are sure that his leadership, experience, and viewpoint will help the club in the months and years to come.
