Fire spreads to nearby structures in Bancroft; residents asked to turn water off

BANCROFT A massive fire that started in a Bancroft home Friday afternoon and spread to neighboring buildings is being extinguished by firefighters.

Around 2:45 p.m., the fire broke out close to Main Street and 1st Street South, according to Caribou County Sheriff Adam Mabey. “The fire started in a house on Main Street and spread to another house and an empty storefront,” he told EastIdahoNews.com.

Firefighters face difficulties because of the strong winds.

In order for firefighters to combat the fire, residents are advised to cut off their water.

As far as Mabey is aware, the fire is being fought by Bear Lake Fire, North Bannock County Fire, Caribou County Fire Department, and Bancroft Volunteer Fire Department.

Parts of the town have also lost power, according to Mabey.

There have been no reports of injuries.
