Washington’s Asotin County Fire authorities on the site report that a wind-driven grass fire that burnt about 50 acres north of Anatone late Thursday night has been completely contained.
Blue Mountain Fire firefighters were sent to the area of Forgey and Pine Ridge roads after the fire was initially reported at approximately 11:00 p.m. on July 31. The wind was pushing the fire southward, burning in CRP ground, bluegrass, and wheat stubble.
The fire was swiftly extinguished because of a light downpour and the prompt action of neighborhood volunteers. Burning hay bales were broken up by a volunteer-operated mini excavator, and the spread over stubble was managed with a tractor equipped with a disk. Crews were able to completely extinguish the bales once they had burned down.
The fire was said to be completely extinguished as of early Friday morning. To safeguard the area and stop rekindling, mop-up efforts are now in progress.
There have been no reports of injuries or damaged structures. The cause of the fire is still being looked into.
