2 people hospitalized after semi-truck flips and catches fire

The news release from Idaho State Police is as follows.

Burley A car crash that happened on Friday, July 4 at 12:39 PM on Interstate 84 near mile marker 207.9 in Minidoka County is being looked into by Idaho State Police.

On I-84, a 2022 Cascadia semi-truck was heading east while pulling a 2016 Utility trailer. The vehicle struck a collision continueator after veering off the right shoulder. The semi crossed the lanes, collided with the jersey barrier on the left shoulder, flipped over, and caught fire.

Wearing a seatbelt, the driver, a 25-year-old man from Grantsville, Utah, was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was brought to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries when his passenger, a 25-year-old lady from Grantsville, failed to wear a seatbelt.

For about four hours, traffic on I-84 was stopped so that emergency personnel could help the victims and clean up the area.

The Minidoka County Sheriff’s Office, Minidoka West End Fire Department, Cassia County Sheriff’s Office, Cassia Medic 2, Burley Fire Department, and Burley EMS all provided assistance to Idaho State Police at the incident.

The Idaho State Police are still investigating this event.
