1 dead, 7 hospitalized in two-vehicle rollover crash near Island Park

PARK ISLAND A two-vehicle crash at Island Park on Friday morning claimed the life of a youngster and injured seven others.

According to an Idaho State Police news release, it occurred at 11:43 a.m. on U.S. Highway 20 close to milepost 380.8 south of Island Park.

An unidentified 40-year-old Shelley resident was traveling west in a 2026 Freightliner semi-truck towing a semi-trailer. According to ISP, the motorist struck a 2011 Toyota Sienna Minivan in the eastbound lane after veering off the west shoulder and overcorrecting back onto the road.

The Toyota overturned as a result of the collision.

The driver of the Toyota was an Idaho Falls resident, 42. He was going with three children and three other adults.

The driver of the semi and the occupants of the Toyota were injured, despite the fact that everyone was wearing seatbelts. ISP reports that an ambulance transported them to a nearby hospital, though their precise condition is unknown.

In the Toyota, one of the children passed away.

While emergency personnel were on the site, both lanes were closed for approximately five hours.

Investigations into the crash are still ongoing.
